The Big Island of Hawaii is a magical place filled with diverse landscapes, stunning beaches, and unique natural wonders. If you’re considering eloping on this incredible island, you’ll be spoiled for choice with so many amazing locations to choose from. Here are my top picks for the best places to elope on the Big Island.
Eloping inside Volcanoes National Park is an experience unlike any other. Exchange your vows surrounded by the incredible natural beauty of the molten lava flow and the towering cliffs. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the power of nature up close. Keep in mind, you will need a special permit to get married here! Curious about the legalities of getting married inside a national park? I help all my couples with the permitting process! Reach out if you have questions 🙂

Next, Pololu Valley is a favorite of mine. It’s a hidden gem on the Big Island, offering a breathtaking natural setting for your elopement. With steep cliffs surrounding the lush valley, you’ll feel like you’re in your own private paradise as you exchange vows. I believe this location will really blow your mind!
Furthermore, for a truly romantic elopement, I’d definitely consider getting married at Akaka Falls State Park. This stunning park features a towering waterfall that cascades into a deep pool, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Exchange your vows in front of the waterfall, then take a leisurely walk through the park to enjoy the natural beauty together. If you are having a ceremony here and would like professional photography, you’ll need a film permit from the Hawaii Film Office. I’m here to help if you have any questions regarding how to obtain this!

Mauna Kea Beach is a breathtaking location for an elopement on the Big Island. With its long stretch of white sand, inviting waters, and stunning sunsets, this beach is the perfect place to exchange vows. You’ll be surrounded by stunning natural beauty and the tranquil sound of the waves. Keep in mind, this beach is VERY popular so it can get quite busy. If you’d like more privacy, try going at sunrise!
Finally, Hapuna Beach State Park is a popular spot for eloping on the Big Island, and it’s easy to see why. With its wide beach and turquoise waters, this location is perfect for a relaxed ceremony. Take a walk along the shoreline and soak up the beauty of this stunning location.
These are just a few of my favorite elopement locations on the Big Island! There are so many other amazing spots to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a beach ceremony, a mountain top elopement, or something in between, the Big Island has it all. If you need help planning your elopement and want to capture the memories with professional photography, don’t hesitate to reach out!
