Your Guide to Romantic Maui Elopement Locations

As a Hawaii elopement + wedding photographer, it’s hard to call what I do a job, as I love it so much! Photographing carefree couples at the peak of their love in some of the most beautiful places on earth is truly magical. Curious what some of the best places to elope on Maui are? I got you!

Curious about the best Maui elopement locations? Maui is a popular destination for couples looking to elope (or get married in general), and it’s no surprise why. With its stunning beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and lush tropical landscapes, Maui is a dream come true for many couples. It is also home to several world-class resorts which make for some luxurious accommodations.

Here are some of the best Maui elopement locations.

Ironwoods Beach

Ironwoods Beach is a secluded and romantic beach located on the western coast of Maui. With its soft white sand, crystal-clear waters, and stunning sunsets, it’s the perfect place to exchange vows and start your new life together. Keep in mind, this is a very popular beach for sunset so if you go during these hours, you’ll experience some crowds!

Makena Beach

Makena Beach, also known as “Big Beach,” is a breathtaking stretch of sand on the southern coast of Maui, another popular Maui elopement location. With its wide open space and expansive views, Makena Beach is a perfect place for couples who want to elope in a tropical paradise. Because the beach is quite massive, it’s easy to find a secluded spot, away from other people. Pro Tip: climb over the rocks to “Little Beach” where you’ll find music and dancing during sunset some nights of the week!

Waianapanapa State Park

Waianapanapa State Park is a unique and beautiful park located on the road to Hana on Maui’s eastern coast. There are cliffs, a black sand beach, and a sea cave to explore. Due to its popularity in recent years, you now need a reservation to visit this State Park. On top of that, you’ll need a special film permit to hold a wedding ceremony there. Permitting process is a bit confusing, luckily I take care of all necessary permit research for my couples who elope in Hawaii! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about permits.

Lahaina Pali Trail

Lahaina Pali Trail is a beautiful hike located on the western coast of Maui. It is a relatively challenging route with stunning views of the ocean. Don’t let the terrain scare you off! The views of the sunset, cliffs, and water are absolutely worth it if you are craving an epic lookout for your private vows. It gets busy during sunset so check it out for sunrise for more privacy!

Kaihalulu Beach

Kaihalulu Beach is dubbed “Red Sand Beach” due to the sediment in the sand that turns it a reddish color. It’s one of my absolute favorite spots on the island of Maui! Just think of how good a white dress will pop against that shade of red! It’s the perfect place for your elopement ceremony or newlywed portraits! One thing to note, the water can get rough so only go in if you are a strong swimmer!

In conclusion, Maui is a truly stunning place and a perfect destination for couples looking to elope. Whether you’re looking for a secluded beach, a lush tropical forest, or a dramatic and unique location, Maui has something for everyone!
